Postiche Design and Construction

Postiche design was possible my favourite module at university. I spent endless nights researching and developing a solid background for my construction.
lets start at the beginning, first we took a template of our models face and mounted this onto our chin block, this was then padded out using cotton wool to recreated the facial structure of our models and allow a customised beard to be made.

This process was extremely meticulous and allowed me to understand just how important the prep stages are when creating postiche pieces.
Therefore I needed to practice the knotting as this was my first time creating a full postiche, the baby steps came next. First was using synthetic hair on a strong 40 denier to initially practice.

directional knotting was the hardest skill to learn and still to this day it's something I have to continuously practice. I spent around 2 weeks and over 40 hours repeating this stage before I moved onto the final piece.
I have attached my research below which goes into a detailed explanation behind my design choices and the historical data behind the final design.
